Captain Tim Fraser Royal Navy
Tim Fraser was born in 1963 and educated at Lord William’s School, Thame, Oxfordshire. He joined the Royal Navy from School in 1982.
The majority of his appointments have been at sea. He has served as the Navigating Officer in a variety of ships, including: HMS Swallow - in Hong Kong - HMS Coventry, for her first commission, and as a Principal Warfare Officer and Specialist Navigator in HMS York and HMS Fearless. He has had the privilege of commanding three ships: HMS Archer (Aberdeen University Royal Naval Unit 89-91), HMS Gloucester (97-99) and more recently as the Captain of the Fifth Destroyer Squadron in HMS Cardiff (01-03) – this included a deployment to the Northern Arabian Gulf in the lead up to the 2003 Iraq war. His shore appointments have included a tour in the MoD, in Resources and Plans, and in the Personnel Strategy Directorate in the Second Sea Lord’s Headquarters.
After completing the Higher Command Staff Course at JSCSC Shrivenham, he assumed command of HMS Illustrious, the Fleet Flagship, on 31 July 2006.
