A special optical detector chip including an oscillator, for modulating the IR-LED next to it,
and a synchronous demodulator for the photo-diode signal, makes this setup highly insensitive to ambient light.
The 3 mm LED is covered by a small piece of heat shrink tubing, to keep stray-light from hitting
the photo-detector directly. Only diffuse reflections from a nearby passing object are detected.
