Jan 6: Things that (don't) go clunk

Today's task on the magical, mystery mileage Vectramobile was to fix the clunk in the front suspension. That'll be the anti-roll bar drop-links (see pic), or so I thought. A well documented Veccy weak point. They can go after 20,000 miles they said. So I bought a pair, removed a perfect drop link from our 150,000(ish) mile car to find it's the anti-roll bar mounting bushes that are shot, not the drop links. Oh well, the new links can't do any harm... Car still goes clunk...

(Don't tell the Veccy, but later on, to cheer ourselves up, we had a quick look in the used car ads... Shhh!)

I went through the exact same process with my Polo!, After changing the drop link things I found that the plastic that sits between the bush and the bar had broken away, you can't buy the plastic bits! and being tight I didn't want to fork out for a whole new anti roll bar so.....some plastic pipe and hose clips from B&Q sorted the knock................I now have a squeek.

P.S. Happy new year to you and Linda

Great shot, but you sure have your challenges with this big repair program. Why now just junk it! ;-)
