Nov 28: Darkroom

I've been in the darkroom today. I haven't been doing much film-wise for a couple of months due to all the building work that's been going on. All that dust's not good for your negs! But I fired up the darkroom today for some prints of roll 35. See one here in my Photo From Every Roll gallery. Ah, the warm glow of the safelight, the smell of the fixer. Actually, it was icy cold in there, and I set this shot up while waiting for the print dev to warm up a bit...

I'm looking at this shot some few hours after I went to the waste collection site in my neighbourhood and threw away all my gear from the darkroom days. I was a bit reluctant, and this lovely image sure enhances my regrets. However, I had no choice, I'm moving to a new house and there's no way I could keep those items.
Enjoy the mood - enjoy the smell :-)

Those were the days. Screaming "Don't come in". And staggering out, blinking, to see how the print had come out and then diving back in to try to do better. And the stinky fingers ! I could never resist paddling in the developer and teasing out the last little detail with the warmth of my fingers. Hey-ho. Happy Days. But Cheers for Photoshop.

Looking at this I can nearly smell dektol...ah, the good old days. Love the use of the safe light for side lighting. Very nice.
