Feb 14: Chemical experimentation

What do you do with those free colour films that processing labs dish out? I'd heard that you can process C41 colour films in B&W chemicals, so decided to give it a go. To make the experiment as low-tech as possible, I loaded an out of date 'Bonusprint' film into the point-n-shoot mju and headed to the beach. 24 shots later, back at the kitchen sink, the exposed film was developed in Rodinal (what else?) for 12 minutes and scanned. Here's one of Arch. Big sky, big beach, big surf. The colour is what the scanner mae of the film, and all I did in PS was a quick auto level and resize. Anything more whould be defeating the purpose. One less cheap and cr*ppy film in the drawer? Oh no. I also picked up a roll of XP2 from the lab. Along with the prints and negs was a free roll of Ferrania colour print film... oh joy!

Sounds like a lot of fun... Good shot. I love the graininess. It almost feels like it's from the turn of the century...

Looks like you are having "retro" fun.

Looks like a nuclear test.

Cool experiment and 'kitchen labs' are always fun to play in. I used to take batches of the free films into the office and leave them on the side with a note saying help yourself - that seemed to work- but not as much fun as your version.
