Aug 10: It runs!

4 weeks have passed since work started, and the engine, now with new fuel pump, is running! YAY! So, to recap, it was leaking oil big time. Mike and I pulled the engine to investigate, and found oil leaking from the oil cooler, the flywheel oil seal as well as the sump plate.

4 weeks on and I have a new oil cooler and flywheel oil seal, I've cleaned up the sump plate, thrown out the cardboard engine bay liner that had sagged with age and was being eaten by the fan, changed the oil, set the valve clearances and fitted a new fuel pump. No leaks, and it's running well. Bit concerned about the fan belt... too tight? I'll look at it later.

Excellent job... but I note it wasn't running in this image! ;-)

Great shot! Make sure those jubilee's are tight being so close to the coil! Wouldn't want any mishaps!

Great News!
Is that some kind of built-in timing marks on the flywheel?
