Jan 3: Piano player SP

A few evenings ago, LA and I were watching an old movie on DVD, in which there's a scene of a guy playing the piano, with the keys relfected in his sunglasses. I just loved the effect and had to have a go. Now, this isn't an easy one, as I soon discovered...

First off, wearing sunglasses in a darkend room makes it hard to see the camera, and of course composing the shot with the keyboard reflected in the glasses without the aid of a viewfinder is, well, impossible. I was ahead of the game using the G2 with it's fold out LCD! But then you find the keyboard itself works as a pretty good reflector. If you get enough light on the keys to reflect in the glasses, there's too much light on my face... and then there's focussing on the keyboard... it goes on and on. Well, I hope you like the result... this was a tricky one!

That's a really cool image, David. As already mentioned, wouldn't be out of place on the cover of a blues CD. Great lighting.

I'd like to see what some of your rejects looked like . . .

Great shot. Reminds me of a 'reflection' shot I did for work. A table of x-mas ornaments with only highlights and white card reflecting, no lense, camera or camera person, not easy to do! At least I had the benefit of a monitor.

Totally cool.

A fantstic shot ... I am not sure I would have had the dedication to see it through, but it was certainly worth all the effort.
