Oct 12: Things on my desk #2

On my desk

Rollei Bay-1 filter set.

Before I got my Rolleicord TLR, I knew I'd want some filters for B&W work and a lens hood. I almost bid for some on eBay. This set actually came with the camera, all in a Rollei branded leather case. Pictured here are a neutral density, orange and yellow, with a Rollinar 2 closeup lens in front. The set. There's also a hood, a UV, a green and a Rollinar 1. The Rollinars are very special. They come in matched pairs, one for the taking lens, the other for the viewing lens, the latter having built in parallax correction... if you know what thay means, you'll realise just how clever those Rollei designers were!

I've tried correcting parallax in Photoshop after-the fact. Sometimes parallax really bothers me, I'm not always real good at getting things level. Other times I will use it for an effect.

It also applies to Twin Lens Reflex cameras... in fact any camera without a through-the-lens veiwfinder... If you don't know what a Twin Lens Reflex is, look here .

Great shot David. Like it very much!
Well parallax correction:

"Parallax correction is required when shooting close-up photographs with a viewfinder camera. The adjustment corrects for the difference between what the lense sees and what the viewfinder shows. Most cameras require no correction when taking pictures from more than 5' away"

or

"The aim of parallax correction is simple. Move the camera until the taking lens is in the position occupied by the viewing lens without changing the angle of the camera. This can be done using a tripod with an adjustable centre column, though you are limited to keeping the camera back parallel to the column axis. Failing to do this means that the taking lens does not obtain the same angle and distance from the subject. Tripods with an angled column (such as the Benbo) will eliminate this problem."

cheers!

I LOVE this shot, and I don't know why. That's how good you are, David.

I don't know what the last means, but the filters look really great. Nice shot!

Quite dynamic in colour and shape. I'm sure its very classy, but no I didn't understand.
