I've been following your work for more than 10 years, Vikki, and I still have copies of some of your tips. You are the best of them all.
I loved your gallery and inspired of your work, so I did my first colorizing:
WOW! Beautiful work! Very impressive!
WOW! Beautiful work! Very impressive!
I make sure I have a link to this gallery every time I changed computers.
I hope you keep posting your work. It's very inspirational and just plain magical.
Magnificent! Simply astonishing to me (at my age, ha!) that such a miracle is possible. What an artist you are. Wonderful work!
Thank you Carole, if you look farther down the page, I've posted a link to a tutorial that shows the same coloring process I use (with Photoshop).
You have brought them back to life, a very special talent!
A stunning gallery beautifully restored and your colouring is perfect!
I've tried some of this myself so I know the work you put into them. Awesome work! I wish I could sit and watch you do a few.
Voted and I am the guest from the previous comment, now logged in.
Really amazing, history lives. Added a shortcut on my desktop to this gallerie. I want to learn all about it. Fantastic. I do have a lot of old familypicture's, even some of them from the 19th century. Please ask if you want to have some practicing material :)
Nice, I do very nice work as well!
This is an awesome gallery. What meticulous work, so ably carried out.
This is an amazing gallery, you are incredably talented. I have attempted this and didn't know where to start.
How can you do that?!?!?! AMAZING!!!
Glad You are still here on Pbase. I hope you are doing well. Thanks, for shearing your pictures with us.
Very good work. Artistic job.
Wow! Incredible work!! Are you sure you haven't turned colour photos into b&w?!! Voted!!
Voted. This is impressive work.
How much work is it by the way? Days, weeks, months per photo?
wow, you are good.
Totally in awe of this work, really fantastic.
You have added so mutch life to these pictures.
Remarkable, remarkable gallery!! Truly wonderful to admire your technique, but equally wonderful to look back in time and remember the world was not black and white, but has always been colorful. These photos invite the viewer to think more deeply about the subjects in the photographs and this is made easier by the coloration somehow...

As an enthusiast of the "pure" aspect of ancestoral photographs, with their creases and discoloring, I truely enjoy seeing your work. See one of mine at
and tell me what you think you might require for your services. Jack.
Simply outstanding. I hope you are making some money doing this because you're GOOD at it!

You should consider teaching classes on how to do this, unless it is your livelihood that is ;-) SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
My brother sent me your site. Quite amazing. I can't even remove a blemish or red eye from a picture. I can take great photographs but forget this digital retouching stuff. you did great. Marla
Wow, just found your site, amazing quality, it must take you hours (or maybe not). I have just started doing some old family photos and the take me hours..
Thanks for sharing, amazing stuff!
I am floored! Wow. I can imagine what a tedious undertaking these have been! Amazing work!
Thank you. The images were colored using Photoshop only.
Good work... Did you used
That is GREAT work! You did an incredible job on these old and faded images, giving them a completely new life!
Just a wonderful work
Best regards from Spain
I'm quite impressed,great job!
Your ability to restore and colorize the older photos is simply amazing! I don't know how you have the patients to do this?
Really brings the past to life.
Excellent work, reminds me why I to love restoring/coloring photos. I need to get back into it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work. Cyndi
Great work -- you are obviously very talented. I will now try some of this type of work myself.
Absolutely stunning. This gallery inspired me to try it myself. I'm still learning and it will be a work in progress.
I think that Adobe corporation should give you free license of photoshop until the year 2120! Great works... with no words... great!
Amazing and wonderful work you have there. I'm passioned about colouring the old B&W/photos too and I've payed a lot of attention of your detailed work through all those images and I can say that you are, simply, gifted with a huge ammount of doing that. Looking through your galleries here is for me like a child in a room full of toys, I'm feeling like dreaming. Such sweet and realistic colours, such delicate touch. Indeed, they are like coming to life, they are speaking to us. Congratulations and keep it up! :)
Tip: pay extra attention to the details. The little things all add up. It is really much less time consuming that one would think. I use the best box of crayons - Photoshop.
Just stumbled on your gallery and am hugely impressed at your work. I have two of Katrin Eismann's books and have attempted colourings, but your work is just awesome! Have you got any tips you could share? Or is it just a _huge_ amount of time and patience?!!
Seems like those old B/W WWII movies turned into color ones. I remember my father liked those WWII moves and when the technology to turn those movies into color versions he was amazed.
This is amazing.
You are amazing, you bring these photos back to life. It's like these people have been transported into the present or something. Cudos!!
Wow! You are obviously extremely skilled in PS. Your work is wonderful. If you're not getting paid to do this you should be. -Jb
Thankyou for giving my grandmother a bit of colour, you have done a lovely job.
Regards Sue.................I have added two more on Roots chat can you colour those for me please if you have the time.
Wow, this gallery has given me so much to think about! From the need to preserve originals as they are, to the way we can alter perceptions of the past by the choice of colour in a gown, to the whole issue of liking colour over black and white. (I think most of us would have looked at the black and white originals and thought they seemed right or good until we'd seen them in colour, when our whole point of view shifts) and of course, in particular how amazingly skilled you are - you've done some outstanding work on colour and texture and tone. I think this is a must see gallery! Thanks for sharing your work.
You did a really great job on all of these!
Just one word : Amazing.
It makes me want to have a try at it.
I use to do it too
and I was pretty good at it too
long process long hour...
These are just about the best colorizing works I have seen. Be proud of yourself for this alone!
wow I know how much love and work in photoshop has gone into this...
Very impressive job ! These views are amazing... What can I say more ? Just thanks ...
zian [ My Pbase galleries ]
Along time ago I use to do it with Corel draw...
I don't know about you, it was a very long process...
most of the time I had to repair de picture as well...
anyway your work is just perfect congratulation...

You have so much respect for the original photographs AND you are able to take freedom where it is suitable...
Intelligence and integrety combined with great graphic skills! A superbe combination...
I will check back regularly... What other galleries do you have on this site? Let me have a look...
Vikki, having read the tutorial pages I'm even MORE impressed with these stunning photographs. Your work is excellent and inspirational. Thanks.
Thank you for posting the colorizer tutorial URL - funnyest thing I've done in a long time. And thank you for the wonderful samples - very inspiring. I'll sign up for your fan-club any day.
I love the pastel quality of the color; the softness complements the original image. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely wonderful work.
I'll bet you did a lot of coloring when you were a child. This is kind of like the adult, high-tech version. I love it! It's amazing how much the feeling of the shot changes after colorizing.
incredible! Great work!
These are absolutely stunning. The dual presentation is particularly great because the originals carry such strong moods even without color, but then having them side-by-side is, WOW!
Damn good job!!! I have done quite a bit of restoration but never ventured into coloring. Again, my utmost compliments on your skills.
Absolutely tremendous. But the tutorial bears no relation to any version of Photoshop or PaintShop Pro that I have.
I've done this myself, so I know how difficult it is. These are the best Coloured B&W pictures that I think i've ever seen. Great work. Thanks for the link to the tutorial. Ive bookmarked it and will be having a go at trying to improve my own meager efforts.
To those that have asked, I've posted (about 9 messages down)how I color these images. Initially, it doesn't take long to put down the rough color. Going in and cleaning up the details takes time. The amount of detail in the image determines how long it takes. Some take an hour, some take 4 times that.
Terrific retouching, it's likely hours of work to get such stunning results ?
Hi. Can you give a few hint of how you do this work
Fine work indeed!
See Why See
Very impressive work here
Beautiful work Vikki. Very Striking.
Do you paint with the "color" blending mode or do you have another secret?
Wow! Each image really does come alive. This kind of treatment is a work of art - you have amazing talent. Voted.
What a wonderful job you do with these Vikki. The care and attention to detail you show in bringing these tired and worn images back to life is stunning.
wowwwww, you are an artist, in mexico I'm dedicated to restauration too, but your work are impresionant, , beutiful and sensitive
Thank you all for taking the time to comment. How is this done? I started out using this tutorial, tweaked it for my purposes, and just started coloring. Color choices are based on era (as best as I can determine), and my own personal taste.
excellent stuff...makes my hand colouring effort look rubbish. How long did it take?
Very nice body of work Vikki. You certainly are a talented artist and create work that is of the highest caliber. Congratulations on such fine work.
