Cheap Skates was first and we skated for transportation and Becky for competition. I still have my Cheap Skates after nearly 50 years.

I’m just coming across some of these pics. My family owned Venice Precision Roller Works and later Road Skates. I remember living in the back of the store on Windward Ave and spending most of my time skating the boardwalk. A lot of other great memories from that time, but I don’t have many photos. These galleries are great. Thank you for posting!

I believe Venice Precision Roller Works was the first skate shop. It morphed into Road Skates. Then, everybody else.

Roller Skating!! Becky Howe was one of the first serious skate girls - with a turnout like a ballet dancer. Her little brother Steve was great too - there's a photo of him somewhere on this site...
Remember when Precision Skates opened up? Wow .
Then Road skates - & all the other places that followed.
So many of us skated to school in the morning and to SM in the afternoon, and all over the place on the weekend. We even went to Hollywood one Halloween on skate- in costume - Kevin McComb and Rick Martin were in on that one -
I will forever fall on my ass trying to use my "toe stop"
with blades on!
