Harry was in kindergarden when littlejohn and I moved in across the street on Cabrillo,so I had known him four or five years when the first of these pictures was taken. His older brother Tad learned to surf first, but he and his friends didn't much care for the confrontations at the breakwater (the one exception being Scott Hermann who I suppose had Parker to back him up). Harry, who had an uncanny ability to block out negative stuff, simply rode his bike and board down to the wall and jumped right in. It probably helped that he was really young, and really small and freckle faced....how could'ya hate him?At one point I think I told him that it would be allright to pretend he didn't know us when we walked by because I was worried he might get flack for it. It was awkward because at that point Dylan was really giving me a hard time while Noah was Harry's friend.
After Prudy and Ron broke up the house had to be sold and she and Harry moved over to Milwood, I think. The next thing I knew he was a really good surfer and a lifeguard . I think I've got some some good surfing shots of him later on but I can't quite lay my hands on them at the moment and I really want to get this gallery off the ground.
Tad's friends were more the hippy kid/new age/alternative school types. I helped drive a bunch of them up to Leo Carillo campground along the coast for a surf week. It was just before I got the camera, but they all show up a lot in the first rolls of film. They were a lot more accepting of LJ and me than the breakwater locals at the time. I figured this gallery might be a good place to put their pictures...to see if anybody remembers them or if they might even show up themselves. They were a nice group of kids. The one I never got a picture of was Paul Hoffman who was off skating up a storm by the time I got the camera, and our paths never crossed at the parks that I can remember...
