-----It was always my impression that Randy was damn serious about his surfing, with a characteristic single-mindedness about the learning process, about his teams and contests and ultimately, I assume., about his shop.
-----I remember one period when it seemed to me that his surfing abilities had really gone downhill. I couldn't seem to get a decent shot of him in the water. Finally it dawned on me that he was learning to do 360s....every day and nearly every wave he was practicing. He didn't choose the biggest waves and repeatedly took off on smaller crap if it gave him a more waves to practice on.A newcomer to the breakwateer would have never pegged him as one of the best surfers because he always seemed to be floundering around in the mush. But then he began to pull them off and slowly moved up to bigger and better waves.... and when he was back....he was BACK!!
