Panama Canal transit from Pacific to Atlantic

A memorable day. I have added narrative to most photographs in an attempt to share the Panama Canals' aura but there is nothing quite like being there. On the same day that I made my memorable journey voters in Panama overwhelmingly approved an ambitious project to expand the famous shipping canal. In a nationwide referendum, the people voted by a margin of four to one to back a $5.2bn plan, which involves building a new channel and new locks. Work on the expansion plan is due to start in 2008 and be completed in 2014. The Panamanian authorities say it will generate thousands of jobs and bring much needed regeneration to the country.
