Among the major annual attractions at Norwalk Raceway Park is the long-running "Night Under Fire." This celebration of drag racing pyromania routinely features a collection of jet cars, wheelstanders, nitro-burning dragsters and/or Funny Cars, a sprinkling of historic and nostalgic racecars, a Quick-16 eliminator run and a gala fireworks display. This year is Norwalk's 40th anniversary of operation, and NUF featured the largest field of nitro-cars yet to appear. Star attraction John Force unveiled a specially-commissioned paint scheme on his FC commemorating the event.
Fan turnout was a record....not just for NRP but for any single-day drag racing event in Ohio history. The S.R.O. crowd of over 40,000 was not disappointed! Event highlights include Whit Bazemore defeating arch-rival John Force in the first round, several sub-5 second runs with Dean Skuza setting low e.t. of the event at 4.92, and Tony Pedegron emerging as overall "champion" of the day via his back-to-back round wins.
