Sunday Morning Sleep-in

Sunday Morning Sleep-in

(Erethizon dorsatum)

From the distance I though I might have an owl today…nope – a porcupine. This guy appeared to be sleeping, securely holding onto a cross piece he placed across the ‘Y’ in the branch; twenty-five feet over my head.
I have seen hundreds of these slow fellows killed on the roads over the years, but I think this is only the second one I have seen alive in the wild.

Fabulous find and capture, and so amazing that he would place that branch across the Y. Had no idea porcupines were so intelligent!

This is an amazing find Glenn (not to mention it is also an amazing shot). I have often seen these guys sleeping in trees but never so out in the open silhouetted against the sky like that. Nice shot! ~V~
