A busted plan! That's supposed to be Gary Robertshaw in the cockpit, but we failed to meet up.
I had arranged with Wayne King (aka "The Peregrine") for Gary to sit in his Top Fuel Dragster
for a firing and warmup run. It's a very thrilling experience for any fan, and the "turnabout" from
Gary often capturing peregrines in photos would have made for a fun tagline.
Wayne King (right) raced this dragster 40 years ago through the Northwest, and brings it to
the California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield each year. In Gary's place, another photographer
friend of mine is getting instructions from Wayne on what to do and expect during the warmup.
