Vic Cooke

This weekend found me at another "Reunion" type nostalgic drag racing event.
This one is held each year in nearby Thompson, Ohio for a type of car known as "Gassers."
Overcast conditions forced me to use wider aperatures and slower shutter speeds I would normally
choose for photos like this, but with care I was able to capture many acceptable images.

Good catch, Vic, especially at 1/160 second. One nice thing about overcast is that it softens the shadows so nicely. This reminds me that we have one of these coming up in October, I'll start warming up my shutter finger...

Katherine, see the little boy off to the right? You don't cringe like that from the sound of a toy.

When I was 10, 11, 12, we had gassers running around on the street, from a 32 Ford to 59 Fords. The really big engines came out in 60 & 61 when Chevy released the 409 and 427. This was when I was learning to drive. I was not a Chrysler fan, so don't remember much about the Hemis. When I was 16, I bought a 57 Chevy with a 283, 4 bbl, automatic. It was one of the fastest cars on the strip. I could keep up with cars up to a 396. Only the 409 and above could wax me. Those were the days.
