february 14: "the calling": for Gilles

I really like Gilles’ fetish for ambient, man-made light and his strong eye and leftfield approach to composition. He also has a penchant for darkness. That and he’s the original charming French man ;-D. And he's also an extreme Christian Right activist, which is why I thought this would appeal to him*.

An example of what I mean is here.

Yeah though I stuble through the shadows of Niall, the Curse will be with me.Darkness is my shepherd I shall always follow.Love the claustrophobic crush of sombre line falling upon the melting languishing hope.Another late vote to add to your thunder of applause.

Strange. Without the cross it could be an abstract image. Yet the cross gives it scale and anchors it.... and I'm not religious! You couldn't have chosen a better pbaser to tribute!!

This is a very beautiful image. I love how displayed the cross here. The soft tones and I am not sure what that is to the rigt, looks like small stairs, this really appeals to me. Very nice tribute to Gilles who has wonderful images. I like everything about this image and will vote for this one.

well, i'm glad to know gilles is an anarchist.
i was worried for a minute. :)

an excellent composition and a nice homage--or at least the parts of it that were serious,
as in the image itself. :))))

Fantastic! (put a "que!" in there and it's quite french! ... No, it's not? hmmmm)
Strong, strong vertical lines peppered with horizontal come in from the bottom corners and seem to close up a bit, as if to contain and protect with excessive devotion. It's perfect that this symbol is seen through a blur, a foggy window as most people tend to follow their religion blindly. Safeguarding something they know only a bit about. But with a ferver that ironically causes deaths and hatred.
I love how you make one think about your images, Niall - and even if I'm wrong, I like the process..
Wait.. there is no right or wrong in art! YAY! I'm right again!! :B
Gilles work is excellent..

Niall, you 'r a Fantastic sorcerer and lying too.......
Yes I like darkness in "photography", In fact, using dark undertones make me happy, strange isn't it ? Mystic ? Pearhaps. Shadows and light are my drug, my religion. For the rest, I think we are inspire by the same feeling you and me.

But sometimes i dream about gulls and softy sand under my feet, you know.

Your tribut make great pleasure, your humour is terrific and destructive but il like that!
When you say "And he's also an extreme Christian Right activist, which is why I thought this would appeal to him", you a provocate psy. you make me speak !!!
So, I say " i am s an Anarchist, and the darknes is my nihilist vision of this world".
But it's not funny reflection. and pearhaps untrue too

Thanks so much Niall for this St Valentin gift
