Dick McFarland's mother first built then opened the Hungry in the early 60's. Dick told me that she wanted a "California" type name. Inspired by San Francisco's Hungry Eye. Three hang outs for us of the latter part of the American Grafitti era. The A&W on the north side of town, The Red Steer on the south side and the Hungry, best burgers and prettiest car hops. And I was so surprised on a recent visit to see it was still there, looking zactly like it used to.
