Golden-backed Snipe Fly - Chrysopilus thoracicus

I've learned so many things doing this PAD! I don't ever remember
seeing one of these flys before till I caught it on the buttercup flower.
I need a macro lens next, any suggestions out there?

I love the delicate black wings of the fly against the yellow flower. Like Don says, you're doing very well without a macro lens. I have the Sigma 105mm EX DG but I keep reading that the Tamrom 90mm is better.

Don't you love those unexpected finds. Looking for one thing and you get a bonus. Great wing detail. That has to buzz pretty loudly when in flight :)

Looks like he's carrying a parachute on his back...nice find, Tom.

Very nice detail. I think you're doing pretty well without one!

Nice catch, Tom! Sigma just came out with an improved version of their 180mm macro.http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3284&navigator=5

100mm macro. You'll never regret it.
I'll trade you mine for this one :)

Well done, the fly's body is color coordinated with the buttercup.
