Organized Chaos

Squaw Creek NWR, N of St. Joseph, Mo

The snow geese are a flighty bunch. Eagles often travel with the snow geese to this wildlife refuge; not to kill healthy snow geese, but to feed on the dead or injured. However, whenever the eagle flies near the flock of geese, they start to jump into flight. Once this is started, many others join and the air is filled with birds and the sound is deafening. I don't know how the individual geese manage to keep from running into each other.

I've been trying for a shot like this, but have yet to succeed. Nice shot.
