Friendly Redtail Hawk

KC Countryside, KC, Mo

MOST REDTAIL HAWKS DO NOT LET YOU GET CLOSE TO
THEM.. THIS ONE IS AN EXCEPTION.. I APPROACHED AND
WAS ALLOWED TO SIT VERY CLOSE WHILE HE WATCHED ME
WITH CURIOSITY.. AND CONTINUED TO HUNT.. I WAS
HOPING FOR A FLIGHT SHOT, BUT LEFT WHEN IT WAS
OBVIOUS HE WAS NOT GOING TO BE BOTHERED BY ME..
IT REALLY MAKES ME WONDER WHY HE IS SO DIFFERENT??

Nikon D300 ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR

I have noticed the same thing, some condition and they do not spook. Wonderful capture by the way.

Great detail in this shot Tom. Lucky you to find this cooperative Hawk. I guess they are no different than us - some humans are shy, some are bold, some don't give a xxxx and some are afraid of everything. Maybe that goes the same for birds and all animals????
