American Kestrel

Central Iowa Countyside

HE NEVER FLIES IN A STRAIGHT LINE... ALWAYS CUTTING UP/DOWN &
RIGHT/LEFT... KESTRELS ARE FANTASTIC TO WATCH AND PHOTOGRAPH.. I
THROW AWAY AT LEAST 95% OF FLIGHT SHOTS.. MORE THAN ANY OTHER BIRD
THAT I PHOTOGRAPH. BECAUSE THEY ARE SO SMALL AND SHY, IT TAKES
A LOT OF TELEPHOTO POWER AND CROPPING.. JUST GETTING THE FLYING
BIRD IN THE VIEWFINDER IS DIFFICULT, BUT GETTING A SHARP IMAGE
IN AN ATTRACTIVE WING POSITION IS A MINOR MIRACLE.. BUT ISN'T
THAT WHAT MAKES BIF SO MUCH FUN.. TO ACTUALLY CAPTURE A REALLY
BEAUTIFUL IMAGE IS SO EXCITING..

Nikon D300 ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR
1/1500s f/8.0 at 650.0mm iso800 (1.7tc) full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

I sure know what you mean, Tom! I have always loved the Kestrel and they are very tough to catch.
You did a fabulous job with this one! Beautiful flight capture!
