Jackson, TN Tornado 2-5-2008

A class IV tornado came through Jackson, TN around 7:00p.m. I was watching that particular cell on the radar as it was coming from Memphis, TN. It was traveling along I-40. We live very close to I-40, so obviously I was very concerned, not to mention how terrified I am of storms. I was watching the storm updates on TV and they were talking about using pillows, blankets, etc. They even mentioned helmets. Never thought of it before. We have 5 motorcyle helmets. I grabbed the two that had the most coverage. I cleaned out a closet. That's how great these weather folks were doing, I had plenty of time to get ready. When it got to Huntersville, which is close to where I work, I went out to the carport so that I could listen for it. Then I heard it. A low...slow...rumble. I looked at my husband and said, "She's here. Let's go." So we are in the closet, motorcyle helmets on and we hear and feel this monster chug past our house as the lights were flickering. Then it was dark and quiet. It seemed to last forever. Our neighborhood was spared, with some roof damage. But as you can see from the following images, others were not. I did, however, burn a CD for Averitt Express for insurance purposes. I found out that some of these folks either only had liability insurance or none at all. I feel so bad for them.
