A place full of legends. In fact the legend has grown so large that many are disappointed to see the actual site of Troy. You have to fully immerse yourself in the history of Helen, Paris, Archilles and the wodden horse to fully appreciate the archeology. Otherwise, it might seem a pile of rocks to you.

Troy (or Troia, Truva In Turkish) is actually an accumulation and an evolvement of 9 separate cities one on top of another each with its' own civilisation and story to tell. The Trojan Horse story lies only in one of the 9 layers of Troy. The first city of Troy dates back as far as the Copper / Bronze Age (4000BC) to the time of the Hittites in 2500BC, all the way to the Trojan war (13th Century BC) to the Roman period around 300AD.

Was Homer's account in Ilaid true? Probably although don't expect to see remnants of a gigantic burnt-out wooden horse. The characters in the legend today were no doubt all real life people. The 10 year siege by the Greek - also true. That is just a couple of pages out of a 9 chapter book that is Troy.

The Trojan Horse has become larger than history itself and is the universal symbol of treachery.
