I wanted to identify a bird I saw along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk. Your gorgeous photos allowed me to identify it as a white-throated kingfisher. Thanks!

Dear Mr. Choo Tse Chien, My name is Michelle Sheah, Thank you very much for posting all the beautiful and colorful birds. I learn a lot from you. I could not keep my eyes away from those picture and also those are a good material for my art painting. A lot of your pictures tell story. Thanks again and keep up your good hobby.
Denisa (CNN journalist) 15-Nov-2010 17:13

First of all, congratulations for your beautiful photos. My name is Denisa and I am a journalist at CNN London. I work for a project called iList Turkey and I will make beautiful galleries of nice places around Turkey. I have found some photos of yours that I would like to use. Please contact me on my email address and I will tell you which ones I am interested in.

Would you give us permission to use them in a photo gallery that will be published on the website international edition?

Thank you very much in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Choo,

You really take fabulous pictures. I too try to take photographs of birds, and blamed the camera and the circumstances until I read your message on your Profile, that one should not be "waiting for that perfect piece of equipment, the perfect shot to pass right in front of them, the perfect light to shine"

I am waiting for my new lens now. I wasn't interested in photos until i saw your pics. Now instead of only looking i hope to start photrographing the birds in thailand.
Keep up the good work.

I found your site whilst looking for bird photos before my trip to Fraser's Hill. The bird photos I found were brilliant, but I then got 'hooked' on going through all of your other galleries. Your various market and street scenes are absolutely brilliant. I am very glad I found your site and will certainly keep coming back for more.
Many thanks and best regards,
Darren (England)

Hi Mr Choo

There was a charity team that went to visit the Stateless people in Semporna recently.
I was saddened and shocked to know the existence of this group.
If you ever go back to that island and need clothings or stuff, do drop me an email.
I would very much like to contribute a little something to the children.

Hi Tse Chien,
Your pictures of the hilltribes are beautiful. I wonder if you can tell me the names of the hilltribe villages you took these photos at near Mae Salong? As I am keen to visit them myself. How did you get to these villages?
Guest 18-Aug-2009 07:04
Hi Tse Chien,
May I echo the sentiments of your previous guests - the photo gallery is filled with snaps that are beautiful & well composed/exposed. You certainly have a great talent & skill. Keep up the good work!
Best wishes from Northern Ireland, Tony Chee.

Hello Mr Chien
As en eager amateur photographer I happened to come across your galleries while surfing for D300 picture samples and I must say that I'm very impressed. Light is clearly your medium...
Your site inspires me to go on and discover both my and my camera's limits.
I started out with a D200 that is now my second camera, as I've just recently bought a D300.
My favourite lens is the nikkor 200-400 mm VR, that seems to go perfectly well together with the D300 (substantially better than with the D200)
Thanks for making your pics available for all enthusiastic photographers.

I hope you do not mind me contacting you but in searching the internet for images of the sooty-capped babbler (Malacopteron affine) I found a number of your images on you Pbase site which I would be interested in using for ARKive, if you would like to become involved.

ARKive - - is a unique conservation initiative.

Films, photographs and audio recordings of the world’s animals, plants and fungi are being gathered into one centralised digital library. To date we have created digital multi-media profiles for some 3000 species, digitising and storing more than 20,000 still images and over 60 hours of moving footage. These important audio-visual records are being preserved and maintained for the benefit of future generations and are being made available via the ARKive website.

I can e mail some more detailed documentation that will tell you a lot more about the ARKive project if you would like. However, in summary:

• It is ARKive's current primary aim to compile audio-visual records for the 16,000-plus species currently threatened with extinction, according to the World Conservation Union's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

• We are looking for media (moving footage, still images, audio) to depict each species' life history as comprehensively as possible. In order for us to achieve this aim we need help from as wide a variety of donors as possible and would like to be able to add you to our list of contributors.

• The ARKive website acts as a showcase for image providers, displaying copyright and contact details with every image and links to each media donor's own web activities.

See examples of species which have been ARKived at
I really hope to hear from you as your images are fantastic. You can contact me directly on to discuss further ARKive and your potential participation in the project.

Best wishes,

Dr Mairead Maclean
ARKive Media Researcher
"Over the past few decades a vast treasury of wildlife images has been steadily accumulating, yet no one has known its full extent - or its gaps - and no one has had a comprehensive way of gaining access to it. ARKive will put that right. It will become an invaluable tool for all concerned with the well-being of the natural world.”

Sir David Attenborough

"ARKive is a noble project, one of the most valuable in all of biology and conservation practice. It has whatever support I am able to give it."

Dear Choo. I just came across your picture of a flame-back woodpecker eating coconut. Well, right now there is a controversy among bird watchers in India as to whether woodpeckers can actually open up a coconut shell and feed on the kernel inside. My doubt is whether you really saw the woodpecker opening up the shell or was it feeding on the kernel that was already exposed (by rats as presumed by some in India). Can I pass around you photo to other bird watchers here in India?

Very inspiring pictures, gear not withstanding. You seem to have a flair for writing also. I also enjoyed your pictures on gear, as I plan to purchase some big glass soon. Possibly the 500 mm f4. I mostly shoot birds in sunny California, although our birds aren't as colorful and flamboyant as yours.

Your work/hobby has been eye candy to me. I enjoy it so much. I resonate with you feelings of the experience of photography. Two of my siblings are professional artists. As a call Christian preacher I neve pursued the work of developing any talents I have. Photography has been an outlet to pent up creativity in a different way than creating a message. The comments on the details of the shot are helpful. God bless.... PoP (The Rev. Carl) 19-Apr-2006 14:40

Hi Tse Chien,

Thanks for stopping by my PBase galleries. As a macro nut, I naturally love the big green caterpillar, the dragonflies, the butterflies, and the little frogs, but your other galleries are equally impressive. Looks like the D100 is the right tool for you, and that Micro Nikkor 105mm does a great job.
