Poor Scooby :(

Harry had a car crash on Friday, he is fine physically thank God. It was only about five minutes after he had left the house to go to the Subaru dealership to get his beloved Scooby ("Scooby-doo the Subaru" is how it got its name) serviced. He was driving down a four lane road, 8 Mile Road, in Northville. He had only just crossed the traffic lights at Center Street so was not going very fast at all, having just got the green light, when a FedEx truck pulled straight across the road in front of him and there was nothing he could do to avoid a collision. In the split second that the two drivers had to decide how best to avoid each other, the FedEx truck swerved, Harry was trying to avoid him, they collided, with Harry's front end going underneath the truck which lost balance as it swerved and ended up tipping on its side. The FedEx driver is also fine, he kicked out his front window to get out.

Harry went to the emergency room to be checked out and he was informed after a CT scan that he has not broken any bones, he just has a closed head injury, he got quite a headache immediately following the crash, hurt his nose, his right knee, his neck and his ribs - the ribs are probably sore from the seatbelt which obviously saved him from anything worse, and both airbags went off, so he did not hit his head as severely as he might have without them. We are all so grateful that cars are built much more strongly and safely to withstand impacts these days as the consequences if he had been in a less safe car do not bear thinking about. It looks as if Scooby is beyond repair and if that is the case, then Harry says he definitely wants another Subaru - they are very good in the winter here in Michigan too, as they are four wheel drive.

When Harry called me to tell me the awful news that he had been in an accident and could I please come quickly, I was already pulling on my boots while he was on the phone to me, a police officer took the phone from him and told me exactly where he was, as Harry was telling me the wrong street names in his confusion, so I grabbed my handbag, and got there as fast as I could. I normally keep my little Canon camera in my handbag, so put that into my coat pocket as I was driving, in case anyone wanted any photos taking and indeed after the paramedics had checked him out in the ambulance, Harry did ask me if I could go and take some photos for him. He thinks he blacked out for a short while on impact, so is only slowly remembering exactly what happened, and the photographs are helping him. I have put them onto my web page for his friends to see.

Drive carefully everyone.
