Several of your photos are of a grey stucco house of which some feature a roof top viewing deck. That house was built by my grandparents Dr. Henry J. and Elizabeth Hartz in about 1911-12. Dr. Hartz was a well known and respected tuberculosis specialist. The state tuberculosis hospital in Howell was named after him. His brother was J.F. Hartz whose medical and surgical supply business was in the building on Broadway downtown that is now home to The Detroit Brewery. J. F. Hartz Co. became Ferndale Labs. Although I don't have proof, I believe this house was designed by Albert Kahn because the downtown office building and the Gotham Hotel (built by Albert B. Hartz) were designed by him. The scale,proportions and use of materials is also similar to other Kahn buildings. I'm extremely happy that it has been renovated and is so well documented. My hat is off to the current owner and all those before them that have kept it from deteriorating.

The finest pictures I have seen of this most unique historical area. It would be tragic if these homes died of neglect. To survive Detroit must renew itself from within.

Lovely neighborhood. Except this is not at all a suburb, this is right in the city limits of Detroit. One of the best neighborhoods the city has.

Both my Grandmother Isobel D. Buschgen-on Burns two houses off a busy street that ended the neighborhood-- and some McNeely G-grand parents-853 Burns Ave. lived in Indian Village and I lived with Grandmother Isobel the summer my parents were buying a house in Farmington Hills. It was a very dark gray stucco house with the front entry porch and door on the right front and driveway was on the right. My parent's wedding reception was held there so she owned it from the mid-1960's until the late 1970's. My Uncle Bill planted a Colorado Blue Spruce that they had used as a Christmas tree one year in the front yard when I was little.

I had a friend who lived in a carriage house in Indian Village. I enjoyed going to visit him because of the interesting neighborhood he lived in. You are very good at what you do. Thanks for sharing your work.

It was a pleasure viewing your images. Wish there were more. I lived in the village in the 70's and miss it still. Lived on Parker and then in a carriage house on Iroquois behind the original home of the Campbell's of Campbell & Ewald advertising, the agency for Chevrolet. Now living in San Francisco, I can tell you comparable homes like those cost from $5 million to $12 million in the Presidio. Keep up the good work

Nice job; your efforts are much appreciated (although given that it's in Detroit proper, I don't think I'd call Indian Village a suburb)! I haven't lived in Wayne County (or Michigan, for that matter) since 1974, but I still love my hometown. It's nice to see that parts have survived.

Great gallery, Tricia. I have passed through this area many times and hardly got arrested. Never went on a tour. It looks very interesting. Nice photos straight from the camera. Voted.
