January 8, 2009: A strong earthquake, measuring 6.1 on the richter scale, shook Costa Rica in the area of Poasito and Cinchona. Even in Ciudad Quesada, I felt the world moving about me as I stood with a patient in the parking lot of my office, watching my car sway back and forth. Many of those affected by the earthquake were moved to different locations that could be described as tent cities. This would be their home for the coming months until the government could get the victims a permanent residence. I decided to volunteer my services as a chiropractor at two of the locations (Poasito and La Virgen de Sarapiqui) as well as the Red Cross headquarters in San Miguel. It was an amazing experience.
