I just stayed there last night for New Year's Eve,, I didn't experience any paranormal activity but it is a bit creepy! Most of the staff we talked to claim they have bad ghostly encounters there!! I do believe in ghost, so I am certain we will be visiting again to see if any of these stories are actually true. Ill keep you posted ! Nikki
I visited the park many times as a young adult, it was the most memerable time of my life. I lived footsteps from the Lake. The Hotel always will be remembered as a place of paranormal and bitter sweet activity as I been there many times. In fact the house I lived in a house that was a site of a suicide that happen in one of the bedrooms. I spent years in battle with this "ghost" as he made sure his presants was known throughout my entire living days at Conneaut Lake. Trust this, from a person who as lived it, its not only the Hotel but Conneat Lake is a place of full paranormal activities.
Hotel Conneaut was built in 1903 after it was determined that Exposition Hotel, constructed a century earlier, was too small to support the area's booming resort business. One wing from the original hotel was retained and is part of the hotel as it stands today. One hundred and fifty additional guest rooms and the Crystal Ballroom were part of a major expansion project that occurred in 1925.
On April 29, 1943 there was a devastating fire at the hotel that destroyed a large portion of the building. Some reports state that the fire was started by an electrical short caused by lightning from a storm while others claim that the building suffered a direct lightning strike. The former was confirmed by hotel employees.
Many claims of paranormal activity have been reported throughout the years by hotel guests and employees alike. The most famous "ghost story" involves the spirit of a young women named Elizabeth, a bride who was said to have died tragically in the fire of 1943. Although there are reports of a spirit named Elizabeth lingering in the hotel's long corridors, the fact that she died in the fire has been disputed. In fact, it is now reported that the hotel was closed at the time and that no lives were lost in the fire.
Only a few deaths tied to the hotel have been confirmed, including a man named Dennis Mead who was stabbed with a knife on the property in 1791 and a guest staying at the hotel who reportedly suffered a heart attack in Room 82 on August 20, 2006. It is believed, however, that the property on which the hotel was built had seen much violence and bloodshed during a major massacre involving the Iroquois and Erie Indians who inhabited the area in the 16th and 17th centuries. Also, Conneaut Lake was raised in the 1840, causing an outbreak of the deadly Malaria virus.
After visiting Conneaut park as a child, I wanted to stay at the hotel for it's history and old victorian charm. I booked room 155 with a lakeside view as a last stop on a Pa and Ohio road trip. The room was charming in comparison to a modern hotel and the staff very friendly. I did not notice any activity but my girlfriend was startled at 3am by what she said was a deep exhale to the left of the bed. I was asleep but was awaken suddenly as she was looking for someone that was not to be seen. I did have to carry on a long conversation until we could get back to sleep. I wish it could have been documented but a personal experience for sure.
My family just stayed there and though we did not encounter any paranormal activity we did have mushrooms growing in our carpet.
I have a place on Conneaut Lake and I never thought there was something wrong or any "GHOSTS" so say untill it was on the news and I actually went to the park for Memorial Day fireworks and I went into the hotel to go to the bathroom. LOL!
Note To Self Never I Mean NEVER Stay On Third Floor Or The Hotel At All! lol
Maybe it is real, and maybe its not. But you guys need to stop making fools of yourself.
Troy - according to Paranormal State - there is question as to whether the hotel is haunted or not. There is no hard proof that anyone died in the fire, or that of a little boy dying or of a butcher dying.
Their theory is that of rumors taking on lives of their own.
For all those who think "ghost hunters" get paid to do their research, the "serious" ones do not. If they ask for money to investigate, it's a scam. If not, they are legit.
i just saw paronaml state. the hotel is haunted
I stayed there every summer from 1989 and 1999. at the time I knew nothing of the haunting but I was always hearing children(?)child, running up and down the halls and attributed it to unruly children with no supervision. little did I know!!!! other than that I never experienced any other paranoral activity, even ate in the lower level restaurant many times.
I remember working there when I was 16 helping out with yard work. My older brother's friend (Radar ) was incharge of the up keep of the property. It was a beautiful place and very relaxing area.
This is a beautiful hotel, in a gorgeous setting. go for that reason, not because you think you may see a ghost, or experience something paranormal , thats not what the hotel is there for.
ge ta life people. ghosts...REALLY...

Is this open,,I am thinking road trip , it looks wonderful and something that would interest myself and others in my area . Thank you and have an excellent day..
I have been going to Conneaut Lake since I was an infant. The hotel is gorgeous and you took beautiful pictures! I have been to hotel conneaut multiple times, going for coffee in the morning after staying at our cottage. I havent experienced any hauntings but if I did it wouldnt stop me from going to such an amazing place.
ive been reading up on different hauntings and such, and this one caught my attention because it's pretty close to where i live. People have said that along the lake there is a barial ground for indians and such, and the hotel, well i heard a young lady died there in a bad fire, and is "haunting" the hotel? but come on. if anything she's looking for the next life. She's trapped here, and shes trying to get to her husband. Why don't people just understand that she isnt there for your entertainment? she's there because she doesn't know where she is. So, this halloween i think i'm going to gather a bunch of friends and head over there and find out for my self.
it was not closed people. i dont know who said. conneaut PA is haunted and that one is open. clevland one is closed. DUHH
i think the ghosts are just trying to get every body out of their hotel because they don't like any body going in to their hotel that is why their might be ghosts in this hotel.
I never stayed there but i went inside for the ghost lake thingy!
I went there last halloween 2008, and i saw a girl in a white wedding dress, first i thught i was loosing my mind, i looked again and it there she was, she had black hair, i didnt say anything but then she dissapered in the hall way. i didnt know what to think.
OH MY JEEZ! i done went to that hotel this years. it was scary. i stayed in room 112. DONT STAY IN THAT ROOM!! I tell youu. i smelled something fancy, it scared me. my lover was tremblin. it done killt the mood. the water turned on. that scared me too, cause aint nobody in there. i layed back down with her, then i felt someone lightly touch my cheek. i jumped. my lover thought she hurt me. but i was fine. so i ran to the ballroom and the chairs were on the tables. it was freaky. the i heard someone whisper in my ear "GET OUT OF MY SPACE YOU HILLBILLY!" so i ran again, tripping up the steps. the desk clerk asked me if i needed some water, but i just started cryin. i must warns you! DO NOT GO THERE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!
Never been there but may go there this year.....I also heard Ghost hunters is commin to check it out.
The hotel was prety cool im 14 and went there wen i was 11. The sinks wud turn on and off without anyone doing it, the toliet wud flush, and the doors wud slam it was rllt freaky. I reccomend not going to the thmere park if ur looking for rides cuz it sucked unless ur under 10, but the water park was ok.
I have been visiting the hotel since I was 5 yrs old and I am now 31 and still go to visit it. The tragedy of the park and closure of the hotel is a great loss to the all of us that hold it so dear in our hearts. I will forever keep the memory alive and still visit it with my husband and family when I go to stay at the cottage is located in Conneaut Lake.
If there is anyway we the people can help please let me know it would be a great honor. firstname.lastname@example.org
Unfortunately, both the park and hotel are closed. The hotel breaks so many fire codes that it will probably never reopen. And as for the park, the damages are so great (the ballroom was set on fire and the Ultimate Trip building collapsed) that there is probably no way they can raise enough money. All of the rides' motors and such were in the ballroom, so they lost pretty much everything. Now the ballroom building is completely gone.
I went there recently and walked through an area of the park. It is eerie to see it so empty, and it is horribly sad. Picnic tables and trees are scorched, the collapsed building is startling, and the streetlamps are melted. I've been to the park numerous times, and it is just so sad to see a place with so much charm and energy just go to pieces like that.
And even if someone came along with enough money to rebuild the place (which would be a lot, considering back insurance and stuff), they couldn't buy it. Conneaut Lake owns it. And they can't sell it. If they try to, the property goes back to the man who gave it to Conneaut Lake in the first place. And he's in prison, if I remember correctly.
It's just sad.
I use to sleep their because my mom work night shift . My mom was working and I was in bed and the water came on and i went to go check it out then i touch the handle and a flash in the room and every thing look old and there was a little girl in the bathroom and smoke was coming in the bathroom and i freak then everything flash and the room went back to nomal then the water change to red. it was scary.
I used to work there on the night shift after my senior year in high school. I experienced many things that were pretty freaky. Once I smelled smoke, and I searched the whole place (it was a weeknight and we were pretty empty) and found nothing, and security searched too. I used to hear sounds coming from the kitchen in the middle of the night, and we had all the rooms on the second and third floors flood on a day when we had but one room occupied on the first floor. These were elderly people, I doubt they'd do it. I had some very strange comments from guests who stayed on the third floor, but the one that got my the most was the time all the smoke detectors were pulled down from the celing. If you've been there you know how high up that is, and I suspect I'd have noitced someone come in and up the stairs with a ladder that size! Once even my cash register started to beep and the drawer came open. However, throughout all of this I never felt scared except the timme I took a day shift cleaning that old wing and the nailed-open door swung shut on me with a slam. I ran down the employee stairs so fast it wasn't funny, and I never cleaned that wing alone again! I loved working there, and I would have loved the opportunity to stay there as a guest. I hope they reopen next summer, I think it would be a fun place to take my family and relive some of those neat experiences, even if the park itself isn't going.
I would like to know if the hotel will be open this year 2008. I would like to have a event there.
I came upon this site after learning that the dreamland ballroom just burned down. It just makes me so sad. I came to the park and stayed in the Hotel many times as a child. I started the tradition of taking my daughter there every pumkinfest weekend. I wish there was a way to save this beautiful park. By the way, my husband will no longer sty in the hotel. The door between our adjoining rooms opened and closed all night long and he was afaid to get up and use the bathroom!
My dad used to take us to Conneaut every year when we were little. He passed away in 2001 and I take my kids now I love the memories and I'm really into the hotel hauntings. Can anyone tell me if it's going to be open this summer-2008? It's a really big part of my life it holds a special place in my heart and always will.
I was in the hotel and the doors were slaming. I also heard running the the hall. I heard people laughing there was know one there. I dont care what any one saids because I heard it and seen it.
(Conneaut Lake, PA)
A Little History
Located inside the Conneaut Lake Amusement Park is this lovely Victorian Hotel, which has been the queen of accommodations at Conneaut Lake since it first welcomed guests in 1903. For over a century Conneaut Lake Park guests have stayed there, while enjoying the amusement park and the lake. Hotel Conneaut is a vintage hotel, offering accommodations very similar to what was offered at the turn of the century. The rooms do not even offer air conditioning, television, or heat, in order to preserve the rustic and enjoyable period of time before these amenities were available. Most of the rooms have been refurbished with individual themes by volunteers. Before Hotel Conneaut was built, the "Exposition Hotel" stood on the site. In 1903, one wing of the Exposition Hotel was used in the construction of Hotel Conneaut and still stands to this day. Originally, Hotel Conneaut boasted 300 guest rooms. Room rates were $1.00 per day and meals were only $.35! The shows were water skiers, music and dancers.
On April 29, 1943 the hotel was struck by lightning and the resulting fire destroyed more than half the roof. Unable to obtain permission to replace the damaged roof due to World War II, the damaged section was demolished resulting in a remodeled hotel of 150 rooms. Today the Hotel Conneaut is the only hotel in operation at Conneaut Lake and the last survivor of over a dozen hotels that once stood in Conneaut Lake Park.
For many years it has been rumoured that two hotel guests - a bride and groom on their honeymoon, were trapped inside during the 1943 fire. It is said that the groom survived but the bride perished in the fire, because she was searching desperately for her husband. To this day, unexplained events are said to occur in the hotel and many people attribute these strange occurrences to the "Bride Elizabeth", who roams the hotel still searching for her lost love. Well, during our investigation we learned that the tale is nothing more than a myth, as the fire happened during the hotel's closed season and no one was inside during the time of the fire. So, this tale can now be laid to rest.
I bet nobody ever thought that they spray jasmine around the hotel to scare you... It's all bullcrap. I've been there 3 times and never experienced a thing. I've never believed in ghosts.
My husband and I stayed for three days at the hotel back in 1998 and had a great time. It is just an old hotel that needs a little tlc. The ballroom was absolutely beautiful even with the furniture covered by white sheets. The view from the porch looking out onto the lake is so peaceful. I do hope the park is reopened. What a shame to lose such history. I'm from Chicago and would really like to go back to the park and the hotel to enjoy it once more.
my one friend was in the bathroom of the kitchen in hotel conneaut when all of a sudden she heard someone say something and no one was in the bathroom ! she ran out running!
I never believed in stuff like this, but when I went there, well that's a different story. Well I was in my room, and all of a sudden I felt as if something was walking past me. I snapped a picture and I got the perfect view of an orb, I got atleast 3 orb pics. My suggestions on finding the ghosts are:
1.) You have to feel it, it's kinda like you know something's there, then snap a pic. even if it's of the wall. ( that's how I got an awesome one)
2.) You have to keep taking pics. until you get something.
3.) Explore like crazzyyy
And your bound to find someting eventually. =)
Me and my cuzzin stayed at hotel conneaut on the third floor...we heard rattling noises all night long...there was no one awake on our floor...all the sudden our bathroom sink turned on...Me and my cuzzin we're freaked out but we went to bed...The Next morning when we woke up to find our clothes all over the floor and our suitcases laying on the ground empty...we went to the front desk to tell them and they said it was just a dream...But obviously two people don't have the same dream
I woke up one day and went in the hallway to take a morning strech.I was on the third floor and saw a phone shaking and ringing.I went over to it and picked it up.All I heard was "I NEED TO FIND MY HUSBAND.........NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"I
hung up and ran down the stairs to tell the front desk.He said"I don't now what your
talking about, the phones in the halls never ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I'm totally freaked out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went and stayed there and had 2 ghost encounters but i like something about the hotel. When I walk in I feel like I want 2 stay there!
when i sleep there i get freaked out
I went to the hotel and i stayed on the 3rd floor and it was time to go to sleep and all of a sudden at 1a.m. i heard a voice say ''hush little baby dont you cry''!!!! I freaked out and looked in the hallway cuz it sounded like it was coming from their!!!!! All i saw WRIGHT BEFORE MY EYES WAS THIS GHOST THAT SAID ''GO TO BED DONT YOU HEAR ME TRYING TO ROCK MY BABY TO SLEEP!!!! So i ran back in my room jumping under the covers closing my eyelids rocking back and forth saying i hope this is a dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But i awoke the next morning knowing it was NOT a dream!!!!!!!!! I told the guy at the front desk but he said it was just a dream!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never go back AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My family and I use to stay at this hotel every summer. One night back in 1991, a friend and myself were messing around in the little hidden room off of the ballroom. We heard knocks on the glass that surrounded the room but no one was there. I always felt an eerie feeling when we were in that ball room and we had never heard the ghost stories until recently.
i was there yesterday and stopped into the hotel for a bathroom break. i read the ghost book and was completely intersted. its amazing. i felt a presence and shivered a lot. chills...i guess. i smelled jasmine too. its totally amazing.
it is sooo fricken cool there. im totally loving itt!
JUST WENT TO THE HOTEL WITH MY CHURCH FOR YOUTH GROUP AND WE SAW NOTHING. I WONDER HOW MUCH THESE PEOPLE GET PAID TO LIE TO U.
we were staying at the hotel this past weekend , we were not encountered physically by a ghost but a door that was bolted shut opened and swung back and forth by itself ON THE THIRD FLOOR. we took pictures and you could tell there was something in it, and we even smelled jasmine. it's definitely haunted
hey i stayed there and nothing happened. i stayed there last weekend with my mom sister and 2 brothers not scary at all!!!!!!!!!!! its pretty funny of all the storys.
I worked at Hotel Conneaut, at the front desk , the 11pm to 7am shift, and after listening to others and experenceing my own unexplanable per say , things i am a true believer, one night , it was the opening of the season and the Hotel wasn't busy , myself and my daughter who stopped in to see me on her way home, were talking and we heard a comotion up stairs and of gourse we went to investigate, we found 29 rooms in all on the 2and and 3rd floor, were open the tubs were full of water , the sinks were full of water, and a few of the showers were wet and some had as clear as day foot prints in the showers. i called security and alongs with "mark" the securiyt guard we desicovered the 29 rooms in all it was crazy there were only 3 rooms rented out that night and they were on the first floor.
i had strange things in my pictures in room 302 we heard strange noises during the night we smelled perfume in the hall my friend found a purple jasmine in his hood after he looked at elezabith's room i'm glad they are opening the park this year we always go up there for the pumpkinfest it is so beautiful in the summer my aunt was walking down the hall when the phone on the hallway wall rang she picked it up and there was dead sielence the man at the desk said that phone can never ring... scary
Awsome pics. Those of you that have other pics, I'd LOVE to see them. If your willing, shoot me an e-mail... email@example.com

We visit regularily. On a recent visit in 10/2004 we took a picture in the parlor room of the hotel. When I got the picutres back a few days ago, the was a reflection of a man in the mirror above the fireplace. This mirroe is 6 feet off the ground !! Anywasy, it is most likely the presence of "John" the man by the fireplace as referenced in the "ghosts of conneaut" book.
yes , its still there,.. and yes its still Haunted. It put the chain lock on the door for my wife, and turned on the water in the sink + tolet, flooding the floor in our room at the hotel. Want ghost?,...stay on the 3rd floor, trust me.
The hotel conneaut and conneaut amusement park are still open. 814-382-5115
These pics look great and like a place my husband and I would love to go. Is it still there and open? I am thinking its not since I cannot find a phone number for them. (Hotel Conneaut) Thanks much
Elisabeth was just married that day when the fire started
