Tahoe has a healthy population of bald eagles. Just outside the basin there is a protected nesting area known as Boca Reservoir. Last winter as I was walking along the inlet river a lovely, heron flew just above my head. I was in awe of its' graceful wingspan when all of a sudden an eagle swooped down from above and with its' talons took the heron to the ground right in front of me, ripped a huge chunk of meat from the struggling bird and flew off over the lake. It was a most shocking and awesome sight. I have a few interesting eagle stories that I will share as I post photographs.
