The Temples, Tombs and Pyramids in Karima, Jebel Barkal, Nuri & El Kurru - Part I

Karima is a large market town in Northern Sudan. Around the town sits the remains of the Napatan kingdom of Kush. On the edge of town is Jebel Barkal, a landmark that dominates the skyline. At the base of Jebel Barkal stands the ruined temples of Amun and Mut, and the royal cemetery of the Napatan kings (the pyramids). Further South/West on the Nile is the royal cemetery at El Kurru which is the only Kushite site of its kind. Two tombs are accessible only: Tanwetamani, nephew and successor of Taharqa (died 653BC) and his mother, Qalhata. The final pyramid photos are of the royal cemeteries of Kush that lie on the opposite side of the Nile at Nuri (the original site before being moved across the Nile to Karima and Jebel Barkal).

GREAT PHOTOS Loved the various views of the temples. would it be possible to see some more of your work
in progress, ie wall reliefs, sculpture, and other artifacts? thank you for your documentation of this historical

Après Méroé, le Gebel Barkal (Karima) est "le" haut lieu de la civilisation napatéenne qu'il faut absolument voir, ce que je fis les 15 et 17 mars 2006...
Encore de magnifiques clichés qui me font revivre cette première découverte pleine d'émotion de la "Montagne pure".
