The Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies repositories holds, for example, over five hundred items from the famous Geniza archives of Cairo.
Including such things an eleventh-century, papyrus fragment of the haggadah, the Hebrew text that Jews recite during the seder, or ritual meal, of Passover, Penn’s Geniza collection offers insights into the devotional, mercantile, and social lives of Jews and their Muslim and Christian neighbors who lived in Egypt several centuries ago.
