Foul

Peppy le Peu is cute as a button, but it could emit a very FOUL odor.
This nocturnal beauty has been coming to our bird feeders the past four days during broad daylight.
We fear this little odoriferous skunk is injured or sick.
Late yesterday a vulture landed on the grass and began walking towards the skunk; however, we scared the vulture away. Unfortunately, it may just be a matter of time.........
(Photo shot through 2 panes of glass)

If only computers had "scratch & sniff"! :-))

I'm amazed that this was shot with two panes of glass between you. It's so sharp. This little skunk is a cute as a button. However, something is odd for him to come out during the day. Great catch.
Bernard Davis03-Apr-2010 08:25
Lovely shot, beautiful little fellow. Hope he makes it. (Not the smell though).
Bill Ewart Jr03-Apr-2010 02:10

What a perfect subject for 'foul'. Nice capture and my
hat goes off to you for trying to protect the skunk from
vultures....could result in a stinky situation!

Wow, a wonderful shot of a great creature in visual terms (concerning the nose, it's a question of taste, but taste is relative). Bv norbi

Great image, sort of a cute little skunk. You don't get a photo opportunity like this too often and you did great job capturing it.
Pete Hemington01-Apr-2010 14:53
I'm not a skunk lover, but this may convert me.
sue anne01-Apr-2010 14:32
Oh what a good one of the skunk.
Sounds like he might be sick but maybe he'll get better.
Glad you shot thru glass, he might let you have some perfumes. :)
globalgadabout01-Apr-2010 14:29
good catch...they are normally too shy to come out in daylight...we have them here as well, and you can usually smell them before you see them..V
Vince01-Apr-2010 14:19

Kerry Tingley01-Apr-2010 13:55
A wonderful capture Stephanie. Do you have some wildlife rehabilitators in your area- call your Humane Society (they always know how to put you in touch with the critter rehab folks! Maybe they can help her/him. www.tc.umn.edu)
Carol Rollins01-Apr-2010 13:04

Raymond01-Apr-2010 10:14
See, you plucked Violet too often, she's changed her tactics ... now she makes you believe she's a skunk. Actually, shunks are really nice little animals, they never fight, are very calm, just go about their little business, eating, nerver bothering anyone ... A vet told me that once the smleey gland is removed, that they can make wonderful pets, very gentle little animals. If he comes out durring the day, he's hungry, that probably what it is ... they seem to eat anything, so ... Hope he gets well and hides better :)))
Ursula Armstrong01-Apr-2010 10:07
he is very cute. Poor thing, if he is sick... Uschi (V)
John Armstrong01-Apr-2010 09:58
Wanna borrow my 400mm just to be able to back off a bit more?
His untypical behaviour does sound a bit worrying though.
You got a great shot btw! Voted
PS I'll just stay 6000 miles away if thats ok... :)
