First steps in South America, March 2015. Santiago de Chile is the only Latin American gateway with a direct trans-Pacific connection to Australia/NZ, and March (more or less) wraps up the summer season. From Santiago I flew south to Punta Arenas, Patagonia, to work my way back north. From Argentine Patagonia I flew to Buenos Aires, then northwest to Salta for an epic bus ride across the Altiplano to Chile's Atacama Desert, before returning to Santiago.
In August 2016 I returned to the region and spent time touring Bolivia. Many of the images from this journey were captured on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, as the main lens for my Nikon sustained damage early on.
