Arriving in Switzerland in July 2018, we settled into a traditional, family-owned chalet in the Lötschental, a relatively Swiss alpine valley in the southern canton of Valais (the property is also available to rent on a commercial basis). Even in midsummer, snow-streaked granite peaks and glaciers frame the valley and overlook four villages which retain much of their cultural heritage including traditional farmhouse architecture and pre-Christian carnival rituals. The area lies within a UNESCO natural World Heritage site, the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch property.
