Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

A first visit to Sabah, the territory known as British North Borneo. After World War II it, together with Sarawak, joined the Federation of Malaysia. The greatest attractions of Sabah are its natural wonders, including the 4095-metre massif of Mt Kinabalu, the highest point between the island of New Guinea and the Himalaya; and an assemblage of tropical fauna and flora that has so far defied the spread of palm oil plantations at the expense of natural habitats. Sabah's people include a variety of tribal peoples on top of the usual Malaysian 3-part mix. The major towns and cities - including Kota Kinabalu ("KK"), formerly Jesselton, the present capital, and on the east coast Sandakan, the former capital - were left in ruins after World War II and there is relatively little tangible history remaining.

A wonderful gallery with some amazing shots. It makes me want to return and to see Sandakan.
