Kaiservilla, the Imperial summer lodge at Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut region of Austria

Here the imperial family would enjoy (relatively) informal retreats from the formality and the obligations of life at court in Vienna. Elisabeth first met her cousin and husband, Franz Josef, in Bad Ischl and the Kaiservilla would remain a favourite retreat for them both, in spite of the differences between them.
