The Andean ranges in Chile lie quite close to, indeed sometimes form the border with, Argentina. A 5-hour drive across the border then north across the Argentine pampas brings us to the boom town of El Calafate, the tourist hub for visits to the enormous Perito Moreno Glacier within Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. Further north again the village of El Chalten offers access to such peaks as Cerro Fitz Roy and the unmistakeable sharp spires of Cerro Torres.
