Hi Leong,

Leong. Please reply to my message i sent to you on XtremePlace.

I'm doing the same mod as you on Head-Fi and then some.

Please search for "Audioengine A5+ Speaker Upgrades" on Head-Fi. It would be great if you can assist me further.

This is as close to perfect as it can get.

Hi Lee, thanks for visiting. For the mods, i mostly concentrated on the dc power lines and coupling caps for the op-amps. The sound improvement is more natural bass and vocals. But must make sure you have a beefy power transformer to reduce AC ripples and much power stability.

Hi Leong
saw that you had a dde V1.1 & u made some mods, care to tell how was the improvement? Did u mod the output to ard. 2V cos I believe the output is ard. 3.6V if not mistaken.
Cheers

Hi John, sad to say when i use the DAC i never bother about the other frequency settings. I only play with the 0' & 180' phasing, the rest i just let it auto detect. Btw i had already sold the set so can't help you much. : )

Hi John, thanks for dropping by. I myself bought them 2nd hand so don't have any instruction manuals. The difference btw MK 1 to 4 are some of the minor parts modifications etc, detachable powercord, rca inputs, pre-pow o/ps.... Cheers!

Hi Leong
I need some instruction manual and details for the Audiolab 8000A, 8000P and 8000DAC. Just wondering if you can help me. I cannot figure it out what is the difference between MK 1,2,3,4 or 5 for 8000A. And the 8000A i have will only work as a integerated amp when i hook up the pre out and power in. Also the DAC front panel has names that i don't understand what it means....eq? xtal?

Please help if you can.

Thanks.

John

Hi Billy, thanks for viewing my pics. It's very hard to gauge how the Audiolab would sound like when match with your Totem model 1. Why not you try posting your queries at the following forums, there might be some Totem users who can give you a better recommendations.

Hi Leong,

Recently, I am looking for a set of good mid-end pre/power amplifier. I have an offer from a guy with Audiolab 8000C/8000P pre/power combo. Could you give some comment since you are the audiolab user. How is the sound? I prefer dynamic, detail and musical sound. Will this combo give this type of taste? I am using Marantz CD-63KI & Totem model1 loudspeaker.

Thanks,

Billy

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your compliments. I will list out the upgrade parts.
1) RCA ~ Neutrik
2) Power Filter Cap ~ Nichicon Gold Tune
3) Belden Silver Hookup wires for RCAs wiring
4) Speaker Binding Post ~ Unbranded
5) Replace 4pcs 1N4007 near the power transistors with UF4007

Actually my main purpose of the upgrade is the stock RCA input's body had cracked, so did a one time overhauled.
Jim 06-Apr-2004 02:39
All your photos are top quality, but the Audiolab upgrade is what caught my eye.
This looks like something I have been thinking about doing to my 8000a. Do you have a schematic & a list of parts & suppliers you upgraded? Finding parts that will fit is not an easy task. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
This must be a newer model than I have; mine has no video inputs. Do you know when yours was made? It looks like a fantastic job you did.
It must sound even better with all the component upgrades.

I also need to replace the tone control switch. Any info on that?
