For 2009's blue riband Britcar event, the format was reduced to a 6 hour race around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. BPM Racing's regular pairing of Owen Thomas and Ashley Woodman were joined for the weekend by TV presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson. In a race that began at 4pm and ran through to its night-time finish at 10, the trio performed superbly in the trying conditions. Vicki set a scintillating pace in her 2 hour stint from the start, moving the Renault Clio Cup well up the 43-car field. Ash took over, and the rain came... A strong stint was interrupted by a spin following a punt from a Ford Mustang and then a near miss when the leading Mosler rotated in front of him, after which Ash pitted for wet tyres. The weather changed again and, after a lengthy safety car period to tidy up an oil spillage on the circuit, Owen took over for the final hour and three quarters on slick tyres. A clean and speedy drive resulted in the team placing a superb second in class. Total reliability from the car was a testament to excellent preparation by the BPM crew. Well done to all concerned: Matt, Chris, Jim, Keith and Mike, and of course the drivers Owen, Ash and Vicki. A great result!
