BPM Racing entered their very first 24 hour race with their Renaultsport Clio Cup at Silverstone, having successfully competed in the Britcar Production S1 championship throughout the 2008 season. Regular drivers Owen Thomas and Ashley Woodman added fellow PS1 racer Garry Whitehead and reigning Britcar champion Steve Bell to driver line up for this race, and Garry brought along a couple of members of his usual Gama Motorsport preparation team to help out over the weekend too. After initial problems in practice with a throttle sensor, the qualifying and race ran relatively trouble free, apart from an altercation with a VW Golf during the night, neccesitating a couple of unscheduled pitstops to repair some slight damage and a broken headlamp unit.
By running reliably and economically, the Clio fought its way to the head of class 5, where it stayed comfortably until the steering broke with just about 20 minutes of the race remaining! Everyone held their breath for what seemed like an eternity as the 2nd-in-class Lotus Elise continued circulating whilst Owen was stranded off the circuit... At the race's conclusion, BPM won their class by a mere 24 seconds! A brilliant result for all the team which was very well deserved. Well done to everyone at BPM Racing!
