This was a lovely little one-dayer, held in the attractive surroundings of Castle Park in Colchester and therefore only a 30 minute bus ride from home. Headlined by The Levellers, the line up otherwise consisted of the cream of local acts and surprisingly good they turned out to be on the whole as well. The Beer Tent had the excellent Brewers Gold by Crouch Vale Brewery (subsequently voted Champion Beer Of Britain at GBBF) on tap at £2 a pint. Lager drinkers had to make do with tepid cans of Carlsberg at £5 for 4. The entrance fee was also very reasonable at £18 in advance or £20 on the gate. There was a smattering of stalls and food was limited to filled baguettes, burgers, crepes & a variety of flavoured candy floss. The event really needs to be better advertised but I hope that the crowd which probably numbered around 2,000 was sufficient for the overheads to at least have been paid for and that we will see this become an annual fixture in the local music scene calendar.
