OK, this is a test -- trying out my new 100-400mm L lens with my 2X teleconverter, using a monopod and trying to capture a distant subject...this crow was perhaps 50 yards away. Fortunately I was able to get an adequate shutter speed and the lens has IS...but it has to be manually focused, and the camera is constantly moving as well...I know that I'm going to have a lot of blurred shots with this setup! Thankfully, though, I use a lot of continuous shooting mode (and I do have a cable release for when I need it and get it out).
