A Couple Hours At Critter Lake

My grandson and I were out exploring, when we came across this beautiful little lake near the road. What we first saw were four pretty white geese sunning on a log, but as we walked down to the shore we found a blue hereon, many ducks, and many of what we originally thought were beavers but as I now know are nutria -- a big rodent that is more of a pest than a cute critter.

Please note that I had no tripod and the lighting varied between bright sun and shadow. You will find that, especially shots of the shy heron in the shade, there will be some lack of sharpness and some noise because in order to get handheld shots at 300mm I had to crank the ISO and still you see the lack of a tripod in the less-than-perfect focus. Still, what a great time at a great place!!! In all we took about 500 shots (not that I'll put most of them up here)!

All shots taken with the Canon SD 630 were shot by my 14-year-old grandson!
