This was one of those days that had me going "Cool!"

My son Josh and I set out to visit the area of the Columbia River west/nortwest of Vancouver, WA -- I place in the same area as Vancouver Lake that I had visited numerous times.

Josh is learning photography, and I wanted him to practice bird photography, and this is a nice local area for that. He was using my Canon 30D with my 100-400 IS lens, which is great for birding, and I had my Canon 1D Mk III with the 300mm f/2.8 IS lens, which doesn't have the reach of the 100-400, but is very sharp and has a very fast auto focus capability. I decided not to use a tele-converter on the 300, because I wanted all the AF speed and sharpness I could get.

The outstanding captures of the day were Osprey! They kept coming! Plus, there were osprey nesting along the road following the river, so we were treated to both osprey in flight and osprey at home! That, plus some Great Blue Heron and a few smaller birds gave us a good time, and Josh himself got some great BIF shots!
