Resolution adopted by the General Assembly
[without reference to any Committee whatsoever]
65/#1. Outcome of the High-level Plenary Party of the General Assembly
held in honour of Roberta Brangam on 29 November 2010
We, the parties to the Party,
Recalling in broad terms how wonderful Roberta Brangam has been as a colleague and as a friend,
Recalling in more specific terms, inter alia and including, to wit, her indisputable professional skills, humane treatment of her minions, excellent wit, abundant good humour, unparalleled sense of style, indomitable defence of the English language against encroaching gibberish, generosity of spirit and love of life,
Expressing regret that the prevailing policy on word count limitations necessarily constrains the parties to the Party from expressing, in the present resolution, further praise of Ms. Brangam,
Noting with appreciation that 29 November 2010 marks twenty-five years, eight months, twenty days and nine hours of Ms. Brangam’s dedicated service to the Organization, and noting with astonishment and admiration that it also commemorates the sixtieth anniversary of her birth,
Having decided to hold a High-level Plenary Party (“World Bar Summit”) in Ms. Brangam’s honour at 6 p.m. on 29 November 2010,
1. Decide to circumvent the policy on word count limitations by attaching an annex to the present resolution, wherein all the parties to the Party will have the opportunity to express themselves with utter abandon (about Roberta Brangam, that is);
2. Also decide to wish her the very, very best in her adventures thereafter;
3. Request Ms. Brangam to report to the Party at its sixty-sixth session on the outcome of the present resolution, including as regards:
(a) The existence of life after retirement;
(b) On that basis, the pros and cons of early retirement, buyouts and other ways to mainstream the benefits of retirement with a view to staff enjoying them before actually retiring;
(c) A fifty-year plan of action, including, but not limited to, a calendar of meetings between Ms. Brangam and her colleagues, in particular those in the Editorial Control Section, inter alia, to help them with next year’s budget and Board of Auditors documents, non-governmental organization reports and applications and Second Committee draft resolutions;
(d) An update on Zero the Hero for consideration by the Committee on the Worship of Dogs.
