I emailed Bird Observers in Brisbane over the 2 gulls I saw on 28/03/2008 on mudbank in a small inlet of Brisbane River at Moggill. I saw 2 large gulls with huge red beaks, smudge grey/black marking behind eye, they were white with very very pale grey wings, no black. They were not Caspian Terns. I'm a bird watcher and investigated my sighting with books and on 'net'. I emailed Bird Observers for their opinion as I had no idea what I saw but have subsequently looked for more info myself. Could I have seen winter adult of Mediterranean Gull? Many photos of the bird are like what I saw. I watched the birds for half an hour. They were standing on the bank late afternoon but good light. I was using my 'old' binoculars. I believe the beak had black on it but mistook this for 'mud'. I cannot find any other gull that looks like those 2 except for the Mediterranean. Thankyou Cecile Lyons
