Not a 300/2.8 -- it's a Canon 200/1.8L. This is a discontinued lens and according to Photodo it is the sharpest lens they have ever tested. They go for around $4000 on Ebay (there are 4 on there right now.)

Nice capture. Looks like the 300mm f2.8 IS USM, just $3,899 and mounted to a pro body, if film around $1,900 if 1D series then starting at around $4,000 up to $8,000. Plus throw in a Speedlite 580EX for around $400. So this at it's cheapest is a $5,200 setup. Did you happen to get a image of his security detail? A side note. I have that same hat for when I am out shooting in cool weather doesn't get in the way like a baseball cap's bill.
