Do your display's images look too dark? Too light? Check out this grayscale chart, borrowed from DPreview.com.
CLICK ON GRAY SCALE TO ENLARGE, and make sure that you are lookig at "original" size, as indicated at bottom of page.
Click on Gray Scale and then choose size "original" on bottom for Monitor Calibration.
